Biosecurity and me

Or… I broke my foot taking off my pants.

I change my clothes and shoes to care for our chickens.  I don’t want to contaminate their living space (or ours) with anything yucky.  I change next to the washer in the garage.  This is usually uneventful except during cold weather: I struggle with my layers (the clothing not the chickens).  When it was cold last week I was pulling off my outer layer of pants, got stuck on my socks, tripped over the small concrete step, and broke my foot.

I will be in a sandal-style boot for 4-6 weeks.  I hope to be off the crutches much sooner than that.  Thankfully, my husband and step-daughter are here to do most of the chicken caregiving!
